2008 Nanomanufacturing Summer Academy

Let the Engineering Fun Begin!!!

 

SINAM is pleased to announce that we are currently accepting applications for our 2008 Nanomanufacturing Summer Academy at UCLA!

What is the Nanomanufacturing Summer Academy?

The Nanomanufacturing Summer Academy is an 8-week summer research program sponsored by the National Science Foundation to provide undergraduate research experience in the area of nanomanufacturing.

What is the purpose of this program?

 The purpose of this program is to prepare, motivate, and encourage students to pursue an advanced degree in the area of engineering. To help maximize each participant’s experience, each student will be paired with a faculty mentor and graduate mentor.

What are the requirements to participate in the program?

 Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Entering junior or senior year during the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Engineering major
  • Interest and passion in the field of science/engineering

**Students from underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

When does the program take place?

 The program begins on Sunday, June 22, 2008 and ends Saturday, August 16, 2008.

Is there an application process and when is the deadline?

 Yes, there is an application process. Our online application is at the UCLA Graduate Division website. Please make sure you select Center for Scalable and Integrated Nanomanufacturing drop box when applying.

The deadline to complete your application is Friday, February 15, 2008.

What are the benefits of participating in this program?

Each participant will receive the following:

  • Room and Board
  • Stipend: $3500 for 8 weeks
  • Travel
  • Meal Allowance
  • Opportunity to participate in GRE workshop

Can I choose the faculty member I am paired with or will one be assigned?

In your statement of purpose, you can state the faculty member that you would be interested in working with and we will do our best to match you with that faculty mentor if you are chosen for the program.
